Description

Summary: The ceramic vessel assemblage found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. Sherds from context B1, unstratified material from the removal of topsoil prior to excavation. The assemblage contains 12 Romano-British sherds and 4 later prehistoric sherds, and a Post-Medieval sherd, the former including decorated samian.

Research results

The ceramic vessel assemblage from context B1, found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. The context represents the topsoil removed prior to excavation and contains a mix of Roman and earlier ceramics, including some decorated Samian.
