Description

Summary: 1 German Prisoner Of War diary from Devizes Camp. The diary gives a unique account of the personal experiences of a German POW held at Le Marchant Camp in Devizes, 1944 - 6. The diary is 56 pages long, written in rhyming German dialect and includes humorous accounts of the terrible food, toilets and dealing in cigarettes as hard currency. Beautifully illustrated, the diary is full of watercolour drawings showing both the layout of the buildings within the Camp's perimeter fences and the interior arrangements inside the prisoner's corragated iron huts. The diary is on very good condition.
