antler gouge

Description

Identification note: Classified as Type 1.3 (gouges) Class B in Smith

Summary: 1 gouge made from the straight tip of antler of red deer, hollowed out to form a socket, with rivet holes piercing both surfaces and the point sharpened, from the Iron Age period, from All Cannings Cross Farm, All Cannings, Wiltshire. Excavated by Mr B H Cunnington and Mrs M E Cunnington, 1911-22.
