brooch

Description

Summary: A Roman copper alloy colchester derivative developed T-shaped brooch, probably dating to AD 75-200. The head of the brooch expands into cylindrical wings containing an iron axis bar. A rectangular plate expands from the head of the brooch, equal in width to the wings, with this surmounted by a loop. The head plate is decorated with an engraved corded band immediately below the loop, surmounting a band of punched ring-and-dots and engraved transverse line. Below the head the bow is moulded into a large sub-circular plate containing a lead alloy inlay, this has degraded leaving the decoration unclear. Found in Bremhill, 2019.
