Research results

Three sherds of Neolithic pottery, excavated from Beckhampton Road Longbarrow by Paul Ashbee in 1964. The sherds have a black reduced interior surface and core, with an orange-red oxidised surface, and are tempered with very coarse, large fragments of crushed flint. They possibly represent sherds of peterborough ware. No record of the sherd's context survives, but they match the description of three sherds found with material eroded from the proximal end of the long barrow mound.
