Description

Summary: The ceramic vessel assemblage found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. Sherds from context H15, part of the fill associated with the stoke pit of a T-shaped corn drier or malting oven, containing 9 Roman sherds.

Research results

The ceramic vessel assemblage from context H15, found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. Context H15 was part of the fill associated with the stoke pit of a T-shaped corn drier or malting oven, and contained 9 Roman sherds. The oven had probably gone out of use in the late Roman period.
