Identification note: Francis Nicholson gave painting lessons to Henrietta Annette Fortescue

Identification note: catalogue card has "On the back of the frame, taken from the original mount, is the inscription "Peter Hoare Esqr. given to him by H A Fortescue, 1827". Peter Hoare was probably the 2nd Baronet of that name of the Luscombe branch of the family who died without issue in 1851. There is a connection between Francis Nicholson and the Fortescue family. In 1820 he published his "The Practice of Drawing and Painting Landscape from Nature in Watercolours". It was dedicated to the Hon. Mrs Fortescue, with a compliment to her proficiency in art, and thanks for 'numerous favours and acts of kindness from her and her family.' A companion picture to 1995.1142" on the back
