Description

Summary: Regimental badge of the Devizes Loyal Volunteers, dating to AD 1798-1808. The front face is decorated with the Devizes coat of arms depicting a castle with a crown above flanked by G R. The belt plate is inscribed DEVIZES LOYAL VOLUNTEERS. Devizes was an Association 1798-1801, and a Volunteer Infantry Battalion 1803-1808. Their captain was Samuel Tayler, a wealthy merchant who was the mayor of Devizes five times. Found in Potterne in 2018.
