Description

Summary: 1 English 'peasant' pottery jug, hand thrown with strap handle, in yellow clay, partly lead glazed, small amount of greenish glaze externally from rim to incised line just before body of jug swells, otherwise plain, upper half of handle also glazed, surface of jug very rough and blackened from firing in characteristic Vernwood style, possibly manufactured by Cross Roads Pottery, Verwood, Dorest, late 19th century to 1940s, acquired from the McLaren Foundation, Clouds Estate, East Knoyle, Salisbury, Wiltshire, 2005.
