Description

Summary: The ceramic vessel assemblage found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. Sherds from context B5, the fill of a grave of probable late Roman date. The assemblage contains 14 Romano-British sherds and 2 later prehistoric sherds, the former including a large rim fragment of a BB1 bowl.

Research results

The ceramic vessel assemblage from context B5, found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. The context represents the fill of a grave of late Roman date, and includes a large fragment of a Black Burnished Ware bowl, from Dorset.
