buckle fragment

Description

Summary: 1 x copper alloy sub-rectangular shoe buckle fragment, no pin. 1 x perforated strap-end. Both dated c.1690-1790. From fieldwork undertaken by the WANHS Archaeology Field Group at Godwin's Meadow, Rodbourne, Malmesbury, Wiltshire, 2006 and 2009. A site of multiple occupation, stretching from the 10th to the 18th century, but the most intensive periods of activity extended from the latter years of the Saxon-Norman period and continued through to the end of the High Medieval period (10th-14th centuries). A complex area of earthworks which indicated that structures, enclosures, banks and ditches once existed in this area.
