axehead

Description

Summary: 1 end of a socketed bronze axe from the earliest iron age, with narrow blade badly cast and broken at the end of the socket - edges never trimmed or used. From the early Iron Age settlement at All Cannings Cross Farm, All Cannings Cross, Wiltshire. Excavated by Mr B H Cunnington and Mrs M E Cunnington, 1911-22. The form and as-cast condition both strongly suggest that the axehead is a fragment of an Armorican axehead.
