Description

Summary: 4 x stamped fired clay tobacco pipe bowls dating to mid-late 17th century: \n- 1 x "IOHN/HUNT" (c.1650-1690) \n- 2 x "IEF/RY.H/VNT" (c.1650-1670) \n- 1 x "IAH? /HOW/?" (early, possibly c.1640-1680). From fieldwork undertaken by the WANHS Archaeology Field Group at Godwin's Meadow, Rodbourne, Malmesbury, Wiltshire, 2006 and 2009. A site of multiple occupation, stretching from the 10th to the 18th century, but the most intensive periods of activity extended from the latter years of the Saxon-Norman period and continued through to the end of the High Medieval period (10th-14th centuries). A complex area of earthworks which indicated that structures, enclosures, banks and ditches once existed in this area.
