Research results

A barbed and tanged arrowhead excavated by Paul Ashbee from Beckhampton Road Long Barrow in 1964. These arrowheads are characteristic of the early bronze age, and the arrowhead is recorded as being found in material which had eroded from a round barrow mound that had been constructed at one end of the barrow. It is interesting that a small fragment of unidentified copper alloy was also found amongst this material, and it is possible that both my have originally been grave goods from a grave which had been destroyed by agricultural activities.
