Research results

Marshall et al. (2020) have recently published the results of a Radiocarbon dating scheme carried out on the site in 2005. This sherd was sampled and provided a date of 4701 +/- 34 BP (3630-3370 cal BC). The results as a whole support a relatively short occupation of the site at some point between the 36th and 33rd centuries.

Two sherds from early neolithic bowls, found in layers associated with the initial silting of the Knap Hill causewayed enclosure ditch, and which can be relatively securely dated to the Neolithic period on this basis. Found during excavations by G Connah and the University of Cambridge in 1961. One sherd (P23) has a relatively fresh organic residue on its internal surface, indicating that it was deposited soon after its final use.
