Research results

A Middle Bronze Age Quoit-headed pin found at Shepherd's Shore, Bishop's Cannings and donated to the Museum by Howard Cunnington in 1911. Quoit-headed pins are often found in association with hoards of objects dated to the 'Ornament Horizon' of the Middle Bronze Age, whilst some single finds and moulds associated with their production can also be securely dated to this period. The pin from Bishop's Cannings is actually the smallest of a group of larger quoit-headed pins and it is likely that most were too large to have a practical function, and may have been heavy enough to distort woven fabrics.

This pin was examined by Dr Andrew Lawson (2019) in his re-eveluation of the type in light of recent finds from Norfolk.
