Description

Identification note: 2 pistcards have correspondence on the reverse and are postmarked 14.JNE.1968 and 6.MAY.1959.

Summary: 21 view of Avebury including the stones, church, buildings and landscape. 1 - 5 small views of Avebury, 2 - Avebury circle, 3 - Avebury Druid Stones, 4 - South Entrance to Stones, 5 - The Avebury Stones, 6 - Avebury Stones - "The remains of what was once a Druidical Temple. It originally consisted of a double circle of these huge stones", 7 - South Inner Circle, 8 - The Ditch on the East side of the Siuth Entrance. View looking East, 9 - View of the South Eastern Section of the Vallum. A gentleman and little girl can be seen in the midground looking down into the monument, 10 - The Avebury Stones, 11 - Avebury, 12 - West Kennet Avenue, Avebury. Looking South, 13 - Large Stone, Avebury. Raising "Adam". Estimated weight 70 tons. July 1912. Wooden scaffolding can be seen supporting the stone whilst three workman, with sledgehammers have stopped work to pose for the photograph., 14 - Avebury Church.
