Description

Summary: The ceramic vessel assemblage found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. Sherds from context H1, recovered during clean up of trench H prior to excavation. This context contained only a small number of Roman and Iron Age sherds, with a single extremely fragmentary glazed medieval sherd.

Research results

The ceramic vessel assemblage from context H1, found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. This context contained only a small number of Roman and Iron Age sherds, although this includes Samian and a fragment of a decorated colour coated ware beaker. The context also contained a single extremely fragmentary glazed medieval sherd. The context represents the clean up prior to the excavation of Trench H.
