Description

Summary: The ceramic vessel assemblage found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. Sherds from context H3, the upper fill of a U-shaped ditch identified at the north end of Trench H, it contained six sherds of Roman pottery, including a large Savernake rim, and eleven sherds of Iron age pottery.

Research results

The ceramic vessel assemblage from context H3, found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. Context H3 represents the upper fill of a U-shaped ditch identified at the north end of trench H, and contained a small number of both Roman and Iron Age sherds.
