Description

Summary: 10 black and white photographs of an estate in Mattapan, Masachutsetts, USA, connected to the Rich family of Devizes Castle, Wiltshire. 1 - view through an open gate and down a tree lined drive. A thick, curved stone wall is on either side of the of the gate and trees obscure the view. 2 - a bearded gentleman is seated, reading, on a low stool among trees. He wears a dark coat, trousers, shoes, socks and bowler hat. 3-6 - veiws around the estate showing landscaped fields and lawns with trees and shrubs, (6 shows a boy and four cows under a tree with fencing ). 7 - view of a large lake/confluence of rivers surrounded by trees. In the left midgroiund is a boat with five people in it, adult and children. 8 - view looking down a drive with a gentleman and his dog in the midground surrounded by trees, a timber built house can be seen on the right. 9 - front and side elevations of a large, timber built house framed by trees and shrubs, a man and horse can be seen in the midground. 10 - view of the landscaped estate, a cart loaded with hay and two men can be seen in the right midground. Anotated on the reverse, "Photo of Coneys Harbour, Matapan, Massachutsetts, U.S.A. girl hood home of Louisa Rich mother of A. F. Conness Rich".
