Description

Summary: A study of the riot that took place at Pyt House near Tisbury in November 1830, which resulted in 14 men from Tisbury being transported to Tasmania. The study includes an insight into the poor conditions and poverty experienced by this predominently agricultual community, being the main reason for the uprising. The Pyt House Riot, was part of the wider 'Swing Riots', which swept across southern England at that time. Essay entry for the Wiltshire Life Society Local History Essay Competition.
