Research results

A Bronze Age 'crutch-headed' copper alloy dress pin, excavated by William Cunnington with the primary cremation of barrow Wilsford G23. The pin is one of a series of similar pins found with Early Bronze Age burials; thier distribution mostly limited to the Wessex area. The pin has a hollow-cast tube at its head which has been decorated with an engraved lattice on each face. This decoration is extremely worn, especially on the back of the pin, suggesting it was worn against fabric and probably saw considerable use before deposition. Other grave goods from this creamtion included two daggers, a whetstone and a flute made from the radius of a crane.
