Description

Summary: The ceramic vessel assemblage found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. Sherds from context A3, the fill of a linear ditch interpretted as a droveway. The assemblage contains 9 later Prehistoric sherds and 5 Romano-British Sherds.

Research results

The ceramic vessel assemblage from context A3, found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. The context is interpereted as the deliberate fill of a droveway ditch, probably during the Roman period, but using material derived from an Iron Age midden.
