Description

Summary: The ceramic vessel assemblage found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. Sherds from context H6, part of the fill of the stoking pit of a T-shaped corn drier or malting oven, and containing only 5 Roman sherds.

Research results

The ceramic vessel assemblage from context H6, found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. Context H6 was part of the fill of the stoking pit of a T-shaped corn drier or malting oven, and containing only 5 Roman sherds. The oven probably went out of use in the later Roman period.
