Description

Summary: 1 black and white postcard, 10 colour and 13 black and white photographs of the Duchess of Somerset's Hospital, (The College) and it's inhabitants, Froxfield, Wiltshire. All black and white until stated otherwise. 1 - postcard depicting the College and lawns looking west. 2 - photograph of an engraving print of the College dated 1792 showing the main gate, a grassed walkway and a wide dirt road below. 3 - front elevation of the Lodge opposite the College, Mr Charlie Hatter is standing at the gate, c. 1920's. 4, 5 and 6 - three photographs of the College quandrangle, 4 - north east corner, 5 - north west corner, 6 - south east corner. 7 - view of the quadrangle c. 1902, which includesthe gatehouse, pump and part of the chapel. 8 - in the quadrangle looking east, two young ladies can be seen in the far right foreground. 9 and 10 - views of the exterior of the quadrangle, 9 - looking west along the length of the building, 10 - looking west along the length of the building. 11 - the College clock. 12 and 13 - views along the path outside the college, 12 - c. 1900 the baker, Mr Naish, standing at the turnstyle at the end of the path, 13 - a similar but wider view as (12), three small children can be seen approaching the turnstyle. 14 - interior view of the Collage chapel decorated for Easter Day. All of the following are colour photographs. 15 - view from Bedwyn Hill of the entire College complex. 16, 17, 18 and 19 - all four corner of the quadrangle, 16 - north east corner, 17 - north west corner and old pump, 18 - south east corner and rose window, 19 - south west corner. 20 - side elevation of the Chapel in the grounds of the College. 21 and 22 - views of the exterior of the quadrangle, 21 - looking west along the length of the building. 22 - looking east along the length of the building. 23 - the former warden's lodge. 24 - the present warden's bungalow.
