Description

Summary: 3 colour and 10 black and white photographs of Bath Road and it's inhabitants, Froxfield, Wiltshire. Black and white photographs, all exterior views. 1,2 and 3 - Three similar views down Bath Road towards The Old Cross Keys, taken from 1800's to 1930's, 1 - the earliest view, the cottages to the west of the public house can be seen in the left midground with a number of people outside the cottages and walking in the road. 2 - this view shows the bakery, Post Office, Police Station and part of the yard to Manor Farm, taken in the 1900's, a lady and young girl can be seen standing outside their cottage with a more elderly lady standing outside her cottage further down the row. 3 - taken in the mid 1930's, this view indicates that the Post Office is still at Mr Naish's premises and the farm is still in use. 4,5,6,7,8 - No. 34 Bath Road, 4 - taken at the time of it's purchase by Mr Bob Morley, his son can be seen standing by the front door. 5 - rear elevation of the building. 6 - Mr Morley working in the garden. 7 - Mrs Morley hanging washing on the line, she was postmistress for many years. 8 - rear elevation of the building following the conversion of part of the premises into the village shop. 9 - Mr Wilater Coldridge working in his garden at no. 29 Bath Road. 10 - taken about 1937/38 outside the Bath Road cottages, shows a small group of ladies, Miss Maggy Stroud, Mrs Hannah Stroud, Mrs Nell Dixon and Miss Moya Dixon. Colour photographs, all exterior views, taken in 1996. 11 - view from the churchyard towards Bath Road. 12 - Bath Road cottages. 13 - the eastern end of Bath Road with the Baker's shop owned by Mr Charlie Naish in the mid- background.
