Description

Summary: The ceramic vessel assemblage found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. Sherds from layer A1, probably representing the base of a midden dating to c. 800-300 BC. The assemblage contains 57 later Prehistoric sherds and two Romano-British Sherds, probably intrusive, including the base of a beaker of South West Orange Ware.

Research results

The ceramic vessel assemblage from context A1, found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. The context is interpereted as the base of a midden of Later Bronze Age and Iron Age date, and is dominated by sherds of this period, although with two intrusive Roman serds.
