Content summary: 28 July 1803: Suspected copy of letter by William Cunnington to HP Wyndham, transcribed by his daughter - has opened a barrow at Upton Lovell in the Meads. A pyramidal barrow (gives dimensions). Made a 2feet deep section and found a shallow Cist, human burnt bones in a little heap and a pot containing ashes. Found gold beads and other gold ornaments, plus over 1000. Amber beads and other amber ornaments, a small urn which looked as though it had been studied with small black grapes. Concludes that the profusion of valuable ornaments indicate that it must be a barrow of a great chief probably a Chief of the Belgic Britons.
