Description

Summary: 1 rim fragment from a large pottery vessel of grey ware, interior gritty with tool marks, exterior coated with a slip made from a finely prepared clay, polished. Decorated with triangular punch marks and incised lines arranged to form a series of semi- oval or D shaped panels. The decoration is repeated and apparently carried down over the body of the vessel, around the neck are two rather larger punch marks, lines and punch marks are emphasized with a white inlay, from the early Iron Age settlement at All Cannings Cross Farm, All Cannings Cross, Wiltshire. Excavated by Mr B H Cunnington and Mrs M E Cunnington, 1911-22.
