Description

Summary: The ceramic vessel assemblage found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. Sherds from context G1, material form the base of the top soil, found during clean up of trech G prior to excavation. The assemblage contains 24 Romano-british sherds, including the mouth of a flagon and sherds of a mortaria in South West Orange Ware, a the rim of a large grey ware jar with burnished zig-zag decoration, and 26 later prehistoric sherds.

Research results

The ceramic vessel assemblage from context G1, found during excavation of the Late Bronze Age to Middle Iron Age and Romano-British Settlement at 'Black Furlong', Blacklands, Calne Without, ahead of the excavation of a slurry pit in 2005. The material comes from the base of the top soil, during clean up prior to the start of excavation of trench G.
