Description

Content summary: 20 January 1810 : J Offer, Imber to William Cunnington– describes the site two miles from Wadman's Coppice which WmC and RCH had visited. It is much larger than he at first thought with apparently substantial buildings. Mentions the coin of Constantine which was found at Imber, ancient chapel, now fallen, the house called 'The Chantry' and the parish church and site of the village between Tilshead and Imber called Chapperton or Chappelton, traditionally 'a large town'. WmC notes 'Mr Offer's British village is on the old track road from Bath through Cheverell to our British village on the same trackway to that of Shell barrow ….. way to John O'Gore Farm.'
