jug

Description

Summary: Verwood jug found behind a bricked up fireplace inside a small cottage that dates to the 17th century, in Burbage. The handle of the jug, no longer attached, was found alongside. A small quanity of gravel and possibly grain were found inside the vessel. Three vessels were found in the same location - also a stoneware demijohn with possible Bristol glaze, c.1835 and pieces of a broken dish / bowl of Nottingham stoneware? Other items found next to the vessels were a button, bottle cork (not from the demijohn), piece of stick and an odd-shaped stone.
