Research results

A small collection of flint, comprising of seven flakes and a core, excavated by Paul Ashbee from Beckhampton Road Long Barrow in 1964. Unfortunately, there is no record of the original context of these flints, however they were mostly likely found in the primary fill of the long barrow ditch, which is described as having contained five flakes and a core. Alternatively, they may have been found within the pre-mound soil, described as containing 8 flakes. The former would suggest an Early Neolithic date, whilst the latter could be considerably older, although none of the flakes are diagnostically mesolithic types.
