Research results

A bronze Age bone spatula, found with a male primary beaker burial in bowl barrow West Overton G6b. In addition to its beaker, the other grave goods in the burial were two sponge finger stones. The latter are thought to be leather working tools, and it was assumed that the spatula had a similar function, however recent analysis of the wear displayed by similar spatulas actually suggests they were a pressure flaking tool used during flint knapping.
