Description

Summary: Roman coin hoard from ‘Black Field’, Cunetio, Mildenhall. Found by Frank Mellish, 1975. The famous Cunetio coin hoard (54,951 coins) contained inside a large pottery vessel was discovered three years later, in 1978. The pot is on display in the Roman Gallery and the coins are kept at the British Museum. This hoard of 24 bronze coins and a bronze finger-ring comprises - Constantine I & II (x3), Valens (x2), Theadora (1), Valentinian (x3), Tetricus (x1), uncertain barbarous & anonymous (x13), Siliqua (x1). Mostly 4th century AD. The coins were identified by Dr Paul Robinson, former curator of Devizes Museum, 1975. The hoard is accompanied by a letter of provenance and a map with find spot.
