Summary: A sheep tibia excavated during excavations at Battlebury Bowl by Wessex Archaeology, in 1999.

Research results

A sheep tibia from Battlesbury Bowl, excavated by Wessex Archaeology in 1999.

This bone was found in a secure archaeological context with an iron age brooch, and has been sampled for radiocarbon dating by Dr Sophia Adams as part of the 'Setting Artefacts Free' project to refine these brooch's chronology, returning a date of 364-203 cal BC (95.4% probability). A cow tibia from the same context was also sampled, returning a date of 390-208 cal BC (95.4% probability).
