Description

Summary: Copper-alloy gilded early medieval Irish mount, from a book cover, shrine or other special piece of furniture, made for a church. Broadly 8th century in date the mount is intricately decorated with zoomorphic creatures and was probably set with an amber stud, now lost. Two similar examples have been found in Norway and another in Essex. The mount was found in the Kennet area.
