Summary: 44 black and white, 2 colour photographs of the war years at Froxfield, Wiltshire. Photographs are black and white unless stated otherwise. 1 - full length portrait of Mr Harry Alexander in his World War 1 Cavalry/Yeomanry uniform. 2 - full length portrait of Mr Oliver Alexander, son of Mr and Mrs Henry Alexander in his Horse Artillery uniform. 3 - head and shoulders portrait of Don Alexander in his Royal Army Education Corp. uniform during his National Service years. 4 - full length portrait of Jack Chapman in his Royal Catering Corp. uniform. 5 - three-quarter length portrait of Albert Cooper in his World War 1 uniform, presumed to be either the Royal Horse Artillery or the Cavalry. 6 - head and shoulders portrait of Alec Cooper in his RASC uniform attached to the Royal Artillery. 7 - full length portrait of brothers Alec and Ernie Cooper, Ernie joined up with the Royal Artillery but transferred to the Pioneer Corp. 8 - three quarter length portrait of Mr Arthur Dixon in his Home Guard uniform. 9 - full length (seated) portrait of Ron Dixon in uniform, he was a Private in the 13th Anti-Tank Regiment. 10 and 11 - group photographs of the Kings Own Scottish Boarderers Regiment, 1st Airborne Division, Mr Reg Dixon (who took part in the Battle of Arnham) appears in both groups, (back row, 2nd left in 10 and front row, 1st right in 11). 12 - the gravestone of Private Reginald Dixon in the Reichwald Forest Cemetery near Cleve, Germany, he died on 17th April 1945 aged 20. 13 - full length portrait of Mr Bill Dobson in his Royal Garrison Artillery uniform, he was killed in France in 1914. 14 - seated portrait of Mr Desmond Douglas in his Fleet Air Arm uniform. 15 - studio portrait of Mr Joseph Gallagher and Mrs Ellen Gallagher (nee Alexander), Joseph is seen in his World War 1, Irish regiment uniform (bandsman). 16 - head and shoulders portrait of Mr Alec Gallagher in his World War 2 RAF uniform. 17 - head and shoulders portrait of Jim Harrison in his Royal Veterinary Corp. uniform. 18 - head and shoulders portrait of Jim Holmes in uniform cap and overcoat of a Gunner in the Royal Artillery. 20 - head and shoulders portrait of Mr Sidney Hunter in his 4th Queens' Hussars uniform, he was killed in Malaya on December 31st 1948. 21 - head and shoulders portrait of Mr Ted Mildenhall in his World War 2 uniform. 22 - head and shoulders portrait of Arthur Naish in his AB Seaman uniform, he served on Royal Navy frigates. 23 - head and shoulders portrait of Les Naish in his Private uniform of the Royal Bakery Corp. 24 - head and shoulders portrait of Fred Naish in his World War 2, Hampshire Regiment uniform. 25 - head and shoulders portrait of Mr Bernard Nicholas in his World War 2 Sapper uniform of the Royal Engineers. 26 - full length portrait of Fred Norris in the (dress?) uniform of the Wiltshire Regiment. 27 - head and shoulders portrait of Doug Norris in his Gunner uniform of the Royal Navy minesweepers. 28 - head and shoulders portrait of Tom Pike in his AB Seaman uniform of the Royal Navy, he served on the aircraft carrier HMS Glorious but died when the ship went down off the coast of Norway. 29 - head and shoulders portrait of Bob Pike in his AB Seaman uniform of the Royal Navy minesweepers. 30 - head and shoulders portrait of Reg Pike in his AR Seaman uniform of the Royal Navy, he served on the escort carrier HMS Trumpeter in the North Atlantic. 31 - full length studio portrait of Mr Jack Povey's brothers, one in uniform (farrier?). 32 - head and shoulders portrait of Geoff Rawlings in his Royal Navy uniform where he served as a submariner during World War 2. 33 - head and shoulders portrait of Reginald Scott in his Royal Artillery Battery Sergeant uniform. 34 - head and shoulders portrait of Ron Scott in his Fleet Air Arm uniform where he served as an AM (A) 1 serviceman during World War 2. 35 - three-quarter length studio portrait of Mr Sid Stroud in his Royal Artillery dress uniform. 36 - three-quarter length studio portrait of Mt Walter Stroud in his Wiltshire Yeomanry uniform. 37 - group photograph of Group "C" company of the 6th Wiltshire Battalion Home Guard taken outside The Rectory at Chilton Foliat. 38 - a group of uniformed ladies taken in Froxfield during World War 2, Mrs Foley, a resident, can be seen in the back row, first right. 39 - three village ladies, Elsie Douglas, Joan Steggles and Sylvia Johnston photographed with three soldiers. 40 - this photograph of Boer War soldiers on army manoeuvres in the village, appeared in The Sketch, 23rd September 1903 and features Sir Leslie Rundle. 41 - the majority of the Froxfield villagers surrounding the War Memorial Cross at, what is believed to be, the dedication ceremony, the vicar can be seen second left from the cross, unfortunately this photograph is taken from the rear of the crowd hence no identification of attendees. 42 - The Memorial cross, it's plinth surrounded by flowers with a laurel wreath at the base of the cross. 43 - colour photograph of the Memorial Cross. 44 - colour photograph of the village hall, "Froxfield War Memorial Hall", opened in 1949 by Lady Wills of Littlecote House. 45 and 46 - the front and inside facing page of a Home Guard Christmas card sent to Arthur Dixon, a member of the Froxfield Home Guard, from Lt.Col. A Lorraine C Fuller of the 6th Battalion, Wiltshire Home Guard.
