Access

We are committed to enabling access to the Museum. There is level access to the building, a platform lift links all the galleries and we have a level access toilet. We have tried to make sure that our galleries, collections and event spaces are as accessible as possible in a historic building - the Museum occupies two Grade II listed Georgian houses, a Victorian school hall and a modern extension!

Dogs

Service dogs are welcomed.

Parking

We can offer parking to those with special needs in the car park at the rear of the Museum. If you telephone us in advance on 01380 727369, email hello@wiltshiremuseum.org.uk or contact us via social media on @WiltshireMuseum, we can make sure that this is ready for you. There is also an on-street disabled parking slot close to the front of the Museum but unfortunately we are unable to reserve this in advance.

Displays

Those who find stairs difficult or use a wheelchair are able to see all the Museum displays via a lift and ramps:

GROUND FLOOR. Includes the Medieval, Roman, Iron Age and now our new Prehistoric Wiltshire Galleries. The Museum shop are also on the ground floor, plus a wheelchair accessible toilet.

* There are some small changes of level at the entrance to the galleries on the ground floor, but portable ramps are available.

FIRST FLOOR. Accessible via a platform lift, includes our Lecture room, Archive and Library, Exhibition Galleries, Story of Devizes Gallery and Saxon Gallery.

Archive and Library. Located on the first floor and accessible via the platform lift for those who find the stairs a challenge. One area can be used for research, and archive documents and books can be brought to you for study.

More information about our collections are available via a computer in the Library and we have free Wifi so you can use your own computer or tablet for searching our collections database.

Customer Charter

To ensure that visitors are at the heart of what we do at Wiltshire Museum, we have developed a nine-point Customer Charter that aims to deliver excellent customer service and an enjoyable experience for all our visitors and members. We recognise that they have choices about where they go and how they spend their time. We will actively seek to understand and address their needs so we may successfully engage large and diverse audiences. The Charter applies to all our visitors – including customers, volunteers, WANHS members, Trustees, enquirers, researchers, guest exhibitors, visiting artists, speakers, students, school groups and corporate hire. It aims to inform the behaviour and conduct of all our trustees, staff and volunteers. Everyone has a role to play in putting our audiences at the heart of what we do.
