Join Frank Menger, who re-created the Stonehenge images for the A Wiltshire Thatcher exhibition at Wiltshire Museum, as he demonstrates how a Victorian Photographer would have taken the photograph of the Thatcher in Farmer’s photo-album.
As a group or solo, you can pose with a bundle of sticks (British weather permitting) to recreate the iconic Wiltshire Thatcher photographer made famous on the cover of Led Zeppelin IV and will be photographed using a period large format camera.
Under Frank’s guidance you will experience how a photographic print is developed in a mobile darkroom box on the spot. There will be one print for you to keep and one will be displayed alongside our exhibition!
To cover costs, please note there is a charge of £3 per print being made!

Workshop lasts approx two hours, including time to learn about the photographic process, and for everyone to have their photograph taken, before being developed.
Cost: £3 per workshop with a £3 donation on the day for the photographic print.

Dr Michael Pritchard will look at how photography evolved from its announcement in France and England in 1839 up to the outbreak of war in 1939. Exhibition: A Wiltshire Thatcher – a Photographic Journey through Victorian Wessex
An exhibition celebrating the work of Ernest Farmer, a little-known but leading figure in the development of photography as an art form.
The exhibition explores Farmer's life and photographic techniques, alongside over 100 photographs of the people, villages and landscapes of Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset taken by Ernest in 1892. One of them, the Wiltshire Thatcher, was used on a 1971 album cover by Led Zeppelin.
