WALK: Pewsey Downs

A circular late-afternoon walk led by Isobel Geddes, with David Dawson.

A 4-mile walk above the Vale of Pewsey – starting below Knap Hill causewayed enclosure, climbing up to Adam’s Grave long barrow, then Alton Barnes white horse, a view of Rybury and the Wansdyke.

Two hours walking, plus multiple stops to discuss the archaeological and geological features.

Details of the day:

Date: Saturday 29 July
Start Time: 5.00 pm. Walk is expected to last a couple of hours or so.
Park and meet: at the car park at the top of the hill north of Alton Barnes – grid Ref SU 115 638 (What3Words = skewing.polar.reseller)

Cost: £12 (£10 WANHS members)

Terms and Conditions

  • Stout footwear, protective clothing to suit the prevailing weather conditions.
  • Reasonable mobility will be required – sufficient for a walk of 3 to 4 miles, with some uphill tracks.
  • Please ensure that you bring water and snacks; this is particularly important in hot weather.
  • The event may be postponed if adverse weather is forecast.
  • Unless sold out, bookings will close at 9 am on the day of the outing.
